This site began with mtDNA Haplogroup I. Being only 2% of the population, we are genetic research orphans. Very little exists in terms of studies and research papers. What there is out there, then usually refers to yDNA studies.
Since all my Sorenson matches originate in early America, Scotland, Ireland, and to a lesser extent, England, I grew more and more frustrated by my female line from Bukovina and Transylvania. I have since found that a branch of mtHg I extends to the Balkans (Central Europe).
I joined various groups but I still felt lost, so I decided to start this site to gather up resources for newbies to use. It is not enough to get those alpha-numerical results. We need guidance as to what it means in general, and how we can use it in our own genealogical searches.
So here I am. The doors are open. Welcome all mtDNA Hg I! And welcome to everyone else! If you have mtDNA, you are welcome
This is now a reference center for anyone looking to get more information on all this genetic DNA stuff.
Please post your mtDNA results so that we can begin our own searchable database! Click on ‘Test Results” under Categories.
And say hello right here in the comments. I’d love to hear from you and let us know how you are managing your journey. We can help each other through this scientific maze.
About

My Hg is I. This was establised by a 12 marker test. Is their any benefit in asking for the 25 marker test? Will it refine the Hg I finding?
Thanks,
Don
